Since my wife and I work in the same town, about 10 minutes apart, we try to get together for lunch once a week.
Normally, we go to a little pizza-and-sub shop, but today my wife recommended a sandwich shop down the street.
She doesn’t eat a lot of turkey sandwiches, but I do, and she said theirs were really good.
It seems like the weather here has been stop and start since March — a couple good days here and there, followed by just as many or more bad ones.
That’s normal for New England … in March and April. But by the second week of June, we should be all the way around the corner, not bumping into walls at every turn.
Today was one of the nice ones, partly cloudy, and warm enough that I could actually wear short sleeves in the office without resorting to the emergency sweater in the front seat of my car. (I don’t know if there’s an air conditioner setting for “20 degrees colder than outside once it hits 50 degrees,” but if there is, our office A/C has it.)
The sandwich shop doesn’t have seating, so we grabbed the bench right outside, ate and watched the world go by.
A man looked very happy to be driving through in his convertible with the top down.
His dog, in the back seat, looked even happier.
There were quite a few cyclists, including one who passed a car on its left, drawing what sure seemed like a dirty look from the driver. Most of them were all kitted out in their cycling gear, but one woman pedaled past us like she had just tended to her garden, envelope to be mailed in hand.

A little boy in a stroller was very excited to hear they were going to the library, while another across the street looked like he wanted to be free of his mother’s hand. She was on her cellphone.
The birds by our feet came a few minutes too late, since I had already picked up the couple pieces of turkey I had dropped and put them in our bag to throw in the trash.
It was a let-the-parking-meter-run-to-the end, no-need-to-hurry-back-to-work kind of day, on a Friday afternoon in an office where not much happens on Friday afternoons. It’s not like I was going to be missed.
Turkey sandwiches don’t last long, but we lingered, and I walked a few blocks with my wife after we were done.

Once I did get back to work, I shot the breeze with a couple co-workers, then handled a couple odds and ends before calling it a day.
A brief shower rolled in almost as soon as I got home, and now the sun and clouds are jockeying for position.
Nice post, good we have a weather that makes us love to go outside.
Your post tells beautifully how pleasant it is to be able to sit and enjoy the nature.
Is it not beautiful to have the birds around and chirping?
Thank you
Erika
