I’m the worst gift-wrapper in the world, and I brook no arguments.
However, being a guy with fumble fingers and inability to operate tape, scissors and paper to create some sort of coherent result is usually something I have a laugh at.
Until I don’t.
I try really, really hard not to be governed by my ego. But needing to have someone finish wrapping what should have been an easy gift ticked me off almost as much as making a hash of it in the first place.
My networking group had a Yankee Swap for its final meeting of the year, so everyone had to bring a wrapped gift that cost under $20.
I found a box of Keurig cups, which was perfect not just because of the cost, but because it should probably be useful for whoever wound up with it …
… and it was a cube. Nothing but straight edges and flat lines.
And yet, I still managed to foul it up.
The edges were off. The tape was in all the wrong spots. The paper wasn’t folding right. It was a mess.
From the other room, Suzi heard my frustration — I’m guessing she figured my language did not match a smooth-running operation — and asked if I wanted her to help.

This was the first gift I tried to wrap this season.
This is not a good sign.
Honestly, I’m exactly the same, and it’s become a running joke in my family because I screw every present up! I’ve resorted to gift bags now as I can’t possible go wrong there!

I mix in some gift bags, but don’t want to go all the way because I can’t let wrapping beat me! (There goes that stupid ego again! LOL)

I struggle with wrapping, too! I’m putting off my wrapping for this year as much as I can. If someone is getting more than two things and can fit in a bag, then everything is going into a bag. I’m okay with boxes but anything that isn’t a box, well, then good luck to me.

Most of what I wrap is fairly flat and rectangular, like books or CDs. Every now and then I’ll do a clothing box. And I even struggle with that.

Damn it, I was hoping I’ll feel better about my Christmas gifts after reading your post. I was wrong!
I wrap fine, but I disappoint folks with what’s wrapped inside… 😝

A friend actually sent me an article saying that bad wrapping actually leads to be people being happier with their presents, and good wrapping leaves them disappointed! https://people.com/home/listen-up-elves-sloppily-wrapped-presents-may-make-their-recipient-happier-study-finds/

That’s good to know and a nifty psychological trick! 😛
